During your stay in Galaxidi and depending on the season, you may enjoy various activities and alternative sports. Surrounding nature is suitable for wine tasting, hiking – trekking, cycling, mountain bike, diving, sailing, horse riding, skiing & snowboarding, atv & buggy rides, snowmobile, ski mountaineering, 4X4, climbing, snowshoeing, etc. There are excellent climbing routes, such as that of Plaka, near the village of Sykia, which is considered to be among the best in Europe. Also, terrain around Galaxidi is one of the most ideal in Greece for paragliding flights (parapente) and offers long-haul flights throughout the year. And of course, the calm waters of Krissai Gulf are ideal for swimming, rowing, fishing and various water sports. Also, Galaxidi Sailing Club delivers sailing lessons for children.
If you’re lucky enough to be in Galaxidi during the Carnival period and especially on Clean Monday, at the peak of the Carnival feast, you have a one of a kind opportunity to witness and even participate in an ancient custom that is revived every year on that day: The flour war, or “Alevromoutzouroma”! The famous event goes back in centuries, probably from the Byzantine period and gathers people from all over Greece. Residents and visitors alike, well prepared with the proper “ammunition” and protective clothing, are engaged in a cheerful spirit and battle between them throwing fume and flour to each other, even to the unsuspecting! Very quickly the port of Galaxidi turns into a battlefield and celebrations last for hours!
Based on your stay in Galaxidi, you may visit the archeological site of Delphi, Arachova and the ski resort of Parnassos, the traditional settlement of Chrisso, the olive grove of Amfissa with one million olive trees, the Mining Park of Fokida, the Parnassos National Forest.
